KUSP Employment Opportunity


General Description: This is a part-time paid position with overall responsibility for maintaining quality and continuity of volunteer-hosted music programming at KUSP. The position coordinates the work schedules of volunteer on-air hosts and volunteer workers who manage the KUSP music library. The position also facilitates the exchange of information between KUSP music volunteers and KUSP’s management team. Work schedule is flexible and is expected to average approximately 20 hours per week. Wages are $17.50 per hour. No employee benefits are offered.


  • Ensure continuity of KUSP music programming by overseeing scheduling of volunteer hosts. This includes recruiting and assignment of new/replacement programs and program hosts; assisting regularly scheduled hosts in assigning substitute hosts when necessary due to vacations, illness or other reasons; coordinating the distribution of on-air schedules and contact information for qualified on-air personnel; and verifying qualifications of on-air volunteers.
  • Communicate information about KUSP policies, contractual requirements, laws and regulations affecting KUSP music programmers to volunteer hosts, and assist hosts in achieving and maintaining compliance.
  • Assist volunteer music programmers and members of the KUSP management team in carrying out reporting and documentation requirements related to music programs, including station logs, playlist development and publication, and music performance reports.
  • Coordinate the work of KUSP volunteers and staff managing the KUSP music library, including acquisition, cataloging, reporting, inventory, and deaccession/disposal.
  • Coordinate communications between KUSP volunteers/staff and music industry representatives concerning library management and playlist reporting.
  • Manage station databases supporting the above functions, including the music library cataloging system, personnel database, and contact databases for the music industry.
  • Organize meetings of paid and volunteer personnel as needed to fulfill the above responsibilities and carry out the mission of KUSP’s music programming service.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


  • A combination of educational background and radio broadcasting experience (paid or volunteer) sufficient to carry out the above duties and responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with public radio presentation of jazz, classical, and AAA/world/roots music.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing, by telephone, and in person.
  • Understanding of laws and regulations that apply to public radio programming.
  • Working understanding of basic to intermediate-complexity computer database systems, both locally hosted and Internet-based.
  • High employee reliability and personal integrity..
